CANTERBURY POETS’ COLLECTIVE: POETRY IN PERFORMANCE

For over twenty-five years, the CPC (Canterbury Poets’ Collective) has brought poets from all over New Zealand to share their work with Christchurch audiences. The CPC spring season features eight Wednesday evening readings from late September to early November.

This year Elizabeth Smither, Behrouz Boochani, Nick Ascroft, Helen Rickerby, Robert McLean, Michelle Elvy, Bob Orr and Lisa Samuels are out of town guests and there will be a rich assortment of invited local readers. You can also bring along your own poems to road test during the open mic sessions.

Coinciding with WORD Christchurch, the CPC reading on 28 October features Michelle Elvy from Dunedin (and around the world) novelist, flash fiction exponent, poet and organising editor of the on-line journal Flash Frontier. Her most recent projects have been the CUP collection of short short fiction Bonsai (with Frankie McMillan & James Norcliffe) and Ko Aotearoa Tātou | We Are New Zealand (with Paula Morris & James Norcliffe) a celebration of the cultural diversity in Aotearoa/New Zealand writing which will be launched at WORD. Joining Michelle will be two well established figures on the local poetry scene: Karen Zelas and David Gregory.
